The Emotional Weight of Disaster

A letter of solidarity for everyone in general and for loyal readers  especially .

Extreme weather conditions often trigger a dual response: a significant affective toll on mental health and a subsequent rise in social solidarity as communities adapt to crisis.

Due to the extreme weather conditions,  I am addressing all those who have   lost their shelter, food, and water, and perhaps even a family member. To the unemployed, to all those suffering from the cold and hunger, to every child who smiles despite the despair, confusion, worry, and sadness that grip some, to every elderly person, man or woman, healthy or sick, to every young man and woman prevented from being where they belong—at work or at school. I do not presume to offer advice, as I am not qualified to do so, but I take this opportunity to express my sincere sympathy to all, and especially to readers I have not yet met. Through my blog, I know them and I feel their pain. I have shared your hardships in the media, and as I write these few lines, tears well up in my eyes at what we have seen. But I am not angry; on the contrary, empathy stirs emotions—boundless human emotions. To all of you, I say: do not be angry.

In the face of nature’s extremes, solidarity is humanity’s quiet answer. It is how we endure. It is how we heal. And, ultimately, it is how we move forward—together.
